August 7, 2011 Lanterns for Peace 7PM

The 66th Anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be commemorated by a ?Lanterns for Peace? event at Twin Valley Lake beach shelter at Governor Dodge Park on Sunday, August 7th. ?Lantern for Peace? is part of an international movement against nuclear weapons that began in the early 80?s. Each year in early August people of all ages gather throughout Wisconsin and the world to bring attention to the dangers of nuclear weapons and to pledge themselves to work for their elimination.

This inter-generation event begins at 7:00 p.m. There will be lantern making, and story telling for the children; information and petition signing for adults; and singing for everyone. At dusk the unique and beautiful floating of the Lanterns for Peace will take place on Twin Valley Lake.

Please bring finger-food to share; water and juice will be provided. A day pass or park sticker will be required. This event is sponsored by the Grassroots Citizens for Peace. For more information, call Jane H. Kavaloski at (608)-935-3007.
