February 17, 2012 Miral Book Discussion 1PM

DODGEVILLE, Windows Into Gaza: Our discussion continues! Join us to discuss Miral by Rula Jebreal on Friday, February 17, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Dodgeville Public Library. Facilitated by Vincent Kavaloski

“I simply wanted to tell my story and the story of my family. It’s not an accusation; it’s a love letter to my country and for many girls—Israeli and Palestinian,” Jebreal says. “Education saved my life. I’m promoting peace and education.” Rula Jebreal

Plot Summary: As a young girl the title character, Miral, is sent into the care of Hind Husseini, the real-life founder of Dar al-Tifl, a home in Jerusalem which began as a refuge for children who survived the massacre by Zionist forces in the village of Deir Yassin. The narrative centers on the lives of four women: Husseini; Miral’s mother Nadia; Fatima, a Palestinian woman jailed for an attempted bombing of an Israeli cinema; and Miral herself growing up during the first intifada.
