November 20, 2011 Fundraising Event for Mary Louise Symon Award

SPRING GREEN, The date for the annual fundraising event to support the Mary Louise Symon Memorial Award has been set for Sunday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the rural Spring Green home of Wendy and John Dunagan. To be honored will be the three winners of the 2011 awards -- Mariah Sujewicz, a 2011 graduate of River Valley High School; Amber Stanek, a 2011 graduate of Highland High School; and Michaela Marshall, a 2011 graduate of Iowa-Grant High School. The Mary Louise Symon award, presented annually by Grassroots Citizens of Wisconsin, honors local graduating high school seniors whose scholarship, personal character and volunteer service follow in the footsteps of Mary Louise Symon, a long-time Spring Green resident along with her husband, Keith.

If you are interested in attending the fundraising event, please contact Shirley Barnes at [email protected] or 608-623-2019.

Throughout her life, Mary Louise Symon was committed to advancing a broad social agenda. She was one of the founders of the Grassroots Citizens of Wisconsin, a committed supporter of Rural Musicians Forum and a long-time hospice volunteer. Prior to moving from Madison to Spring Green, she was active with the Urban League, the ACLU and a founding member of the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission.
