September 23, 2012 [Is there a] WAR ON WOMEN? 3PM

(Spring Green)AT WYOMING VALLEY SCHOOL. Should women have an inherent right to equal pay, equity in insurance coverage and gender equality in established religious institutions? With these issues making headlines today, State Rep. Chris Taylor will probe the question, “(Is There A) War on Women?” on Sun., Sept. 23 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Wyoming Valley School, 6306 State Hwy 23 between Spring Green and Dodgeville.
Long an advocate for women and for basic human rights, Chris Taylor was formerly policy and political director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin for over eight years, leading the organization to several landmark victories for women’s health during some very difficult times.

Elected to the State Assembly in 2011, she was one of the driving forces behind the passage of the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims Act, the first pro-active reproductive health bill to pass the legislature in over three decades.

Rep. Taylor has led numerous state and local coalitions to pass women’s health policy items including: contraceptive equity in insurance coverage, comprehensive sex education for our public schools and increased access to birth control prescriptions at the pharmacy counter.

A lively discussion is expected to follow this event, which is hosted by Grassroots Citizens of Wisconsin, which encourages community dialogue and participation throughout SW Wisconsin. “Our aim is to encourage conversation on both sides of issues and to create an environment where we all feel safe to present our views,” said Doug Huebner, president of Grassroots.

This forum will be the first of the 2012-13 series presented by Grassroots Citizens of Wisconsin, which fosters community dialogue and participation throughout SW Wisconsin. The topic of the next forum will be “If the Rich get Richer, What Happens to YOU?” with speaker Mahlon Mitchell, president of Wisconsin Firefighters and 2012 candidate for Lieutenant Governor, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Mineral Point (specific location to be announced.)
