Grassroots Citizens of Wisconsin Interest Group

Our Grassroots Interest Groups spring from our members who choose to direct their energy toward particular concerns. We are always on the look out for emerging issues and people willing to form new interest groups.

Health Care Reform Initiative

Our Health Care Reform Initiative constantly monitors the rapid-fire developments coming out of Washington, D.C. and are keeping an eye on Madison as well. We continually contact our legislators and write letters to the editor. We host forums to educate local people about the latest developments and are part of the statewide Health Care Reform Coalition, headed by Citizens Action Wisconsin. Today over 100 people from throughout southwest Wisconsin are part of our Health Care Reform Initiative. For more information, click here.

Grassroots Citizens for Peace

We are a group of citizens who are deeply concerned about the “military industrial complex” and its cost to our country – in lives, in resources, in our moral standing in the world. “Grassroots Citizens for Peace” work to change the cultural paradigm from a culture of war to a culture of peace by bearing witness in support of peace and justice, sponsoring educational programs promoting cultural understanding and nonviolence alternatives, organizing intergenerational peace events and offering inspiration from the global peace visions of people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Eleanor Roosevelt.  For more information, click here.

Immigration Group

Our Immigration team is working to clarify the issues involved with our local immigrant population and creating opportunities for community inclusion.  This group is made up of both local citizens and local service providers working together to address the common interest and challenges that they face.  For more information, click here.

Sustain Iowa County

Sustain Iowa County is a local citizen action group, founded in 2007,  that: 1) works to preserve the economic, social and environmental health of our community; 2) builds awareness and appreciation for the unique resources in our Southwestern Wisconsin neighborhood; 3) works with Iowa County officials, school districts, builders, homeowners, farmers and others to encourage sustainable practices and 4) believes that by working together we can create communities that fulfill today's human needs while not compromising future generations. For more information, click here.

How to start a new interest group

Grassroots has developed an Interest Group Charter to help groups get started. Organizing methods, citizen action skills, potential sources for members and projected outcomes are among the topics covered. To learn more about starting a new Interest Group, contact Grassroots.
