December 2, 2010 Stones into Schools Discovery Boxes Unveiling 7PM

DODGEVILLE, With people throughout southwest Wisconsin now reading Stones into Schools by Greg Mortenson as part of the first-ever Greater Iowa County All-Community Read, you are invited to the Dodgeville Public Library for the unveiling of the Afgahni Discovery Boxes which have been put together especially for our area by Rehman Kahn and staff from the University of Wisconsin's Center for South Asia and CREECE. Following the Dec. 2 unveiling, the boxes will be available for check out at the Dodgeville and Mineral Point libraries. Schools, civic groups, discussion leaders, teachers, faith communities and families will use the boxes to develop a deeper understanding of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the setting for Stones into Schools.

An Introduction to Afghanistan will be presented by Rehman Khan who is a Ph.D. student at the University of Wisconsin and former newscaster in Pakistan. He will use artifacts from the Discovery Boxes to provide first-hand information on Afghanistan and give a general overview of its geography and topography, government structure, population, languages, religion, economy, health, education system, festivals and holidays.
