DODGEVILLE, Public Information Meeting Notice From the Farmland Preservation Program to the Working Lands Initiative

The last biennial state budget bill completely revises the Farmland Preservation tax credit program into what is now called the Working Lands Initiative (WLI). As the heart of this new state program is the goal of preserving Wisconsin farmland through tax credit incentives, prescribed land uses and penalties for converting farmland to nonagricultural uses.

If you currently participate in this tax credit program or would like to know more please plan on attending one or more of these public information meetings listed below. Although each meeting will focus on a specific area of the county, attendance is not restricted.

Topics to be covered:
� A comparison of the new program to the old program
� An overview of the main components of WLI:
o Farmland preservation planning
o Farmland preservation zoning
o Conservation standards and compliance
o Agricultural Enterprise Areas
o Purchase of Conservation Easements (PACE)
� Discussion of the decisions before Iowa County and its local units of government
� Question/Answer period

The goal of these meetings are to provide information, enhance understanding and gather public input as the county continues to work with the towns and municipalities on land use planning and its impacts on our rich agricultural heritage.
