October 30, 2012 Dodgeville Schools Referendum Presentation 7PM

(Dodgeville Elementary School) The Dodgeville School Board will hold three public presentations on the upcoming referendum. They recently approved a resolution to hold a referendum on November 6. The question will ask voters for approval for a two-year $650,000 operating referendum. The money will be used for projects at the high school and Dodgeville Elementary. The projects slated for the high school will be a new office and entry to the school, remodeling the existing office and creating a bus entry in the center. The estimated cost is $900,000. At DES the asbestos tiles in the building will be replaced and there will be work on the outside to separate cars and pedestrians from the buses. The estimated cost is $450,000. This year will be the last payment on the middle school, which is $650,000 a year.

If the voters approve the referendum, the projects can be done without a property tax increase. The board decided to go the route of an operating referendum because it will give the district time to get the strategic plan updated and in place, part of which will address facilities.

The board decided to hold the public referendum presentation meetings at 7PM on Monday, October 1, Thursday, October 18 and Tuesday, October 30. The first two meetings will be at the high school and the last one at the elementary school. The board felt since the referendum deals with those two buildings the meetings should be held there so the public can see the proposed projects.
