an afternoon of provocation, passion, positive thinking and delicious homemade pies.
at the historic, newly renovated
Wyoming Valley School, 6306 St. Hwy 23, Spring Green
Every year our Grassroots friends and neighbors get together to think anew about the things that provoke our passions – and to grapple with ideas we haven’t even thought of before. Call it our mini Aspen Institute – right here in southwest Wisconsin. It’s easy to get tired. But this event helps us “rev” our engines and contemplate what it means to be a citizen in a time of rapid, radical change.
- Jay Heck, executive director of Common Cause of Wisconsin, will kick off our discussion. The Common Cause website has the "Ten Things You Can Do to Help Make a Better Tomorrow" as a resource we all can use.
- Potential Issues to be Discussed - this is our list to start with but we welcome your additions: Resisting Corporate Influence in Government, Protecting Health Insurance Reform, Ending Wars in Iraq/Afghanistan, Creating a Sustainable Environment and Life-style, Envisioning a Future for Education, Lowering Unemployment, Restoring Fiscal Responsibility in Government, Controlling Nuclear Proliferation, Exploring Palliative Care and End-of-Life Decision-making, Understanding the World Community and Reforming Immigration Policy.
- Breakout groups will define the "Problem Statement" and then develop "Action Plans and Next Steps" to solve it.
If you would like to bring a pie or help with facilitation, please let us know. RSVP (helpful, but not required): emma@mhtc.net or 608-967-2375 OR RSVP on our Facebook Page (click here).
GRASSROOTS NEEDS YOUR HELP… WHAT ARE YOUR PASSIONS and CONCERNS?
We are all worried about the future of our nation and our community. But where do we put our energies – as individuals and as a Grassroots organization? This survey is intended to give you an opportunity to shape the priorities of Grassroots Citizens of Wisconsin -- and to identify the areas where you think we should be involved. Click here to take the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YLRM6X7
The results of this survey will be the basis for our discussion at the People, Pie and the Common Good event on Nov. 13
